APC opening date in August
American Power Conversion are to commence operations in Castlebar in Mid August.
Company bosses have confirmed to Castlebar Chamber of Commerce that sixty staff will be transferred from Galway in the third week in August to get their plant at Breaffy Road operational.
In January the last Government agreed on a £3m grant aid package which will allow thew company create 245 jobs in the town.
Waldron Clan Rally for Ballyhaunis
Hundreds of Waldrons from all over the world will the first ever International Gathering of the Waldron Clan next month in Ballyhaunis.
Waldron is a surname synonymous with the east Mayo area and the event is awaited with much anticipation. The programme, which will commence on Friday, August 29th, will include a lecture on the Waldron origins by Dr. Nollaig O'Muraile of the Department of Celtic Studies, Queen's University, Belfast.
Meanwhile, the third issue of the Waldron Journal has been published. It has been distributed to members worldwide and is on sale at a number of outlets in Ballyhaunis, price £3. The next meeting of the Waldron Clan Association will be held tonight (Wed July 16th) in the Hazel, Ballyhaunis, starting at 9 p.m.
Nerney for Achill charity dance
Declan Nerney will be the star attraction at the Achill Head Hotel on Wednesday night, July 23rd for a dance in aid of the Achill Sheltered Association. Tickets are £5 and are available locally.
Swinford Show
Swinford Agricultural Show takes place on Saturday August 16 in the grounds of Swinford Mart. A varied and interesting show is planned with something of interest for everyone.
The show schedule will be launched in Campbell's Lounge tomorrow (Thursday) night at 9p.m. All sponsors and supporters are welcome.
Tidy Towns plea
The President of Castlebar Chamber of Commence, Mr. Frank Greene has commended the efforts of the local Tidy Towns committee and has pointed out that adjudication would take place within the next two weeks.
This was a crucial time when everyone should be on their guard to ensure the area was completely litter-free so that Castlebar may gain more marks in the competition.
