Achill Island in County Mayo is the largest island in the Country and is accessible from the mainland by bridge. Deserted Village
At the foot of the majestic Slievemore mountain, the Deserted Village offers a fascinating and haunting reminder of life on Achill island in bygone days. The ruins of approx 80 stone cottages from times past are now home to an archaeological summer school run annually at this location.

Fishing
Fishing is one of the most popular leisure pursuits on Achill island and the Atlantic waters surrounding the island are home to a very wide range and variety of fish. A choice of sea angling from a charter boat, or casting a line from the shore awaits the avid fisherman, usually resulting a rewarding day’s work under the Achill skyline.

Festivals
Achill boasts a number of well established summer schools and festivals each year, one of the best known being the Scoil Acla Summer School, with workshops in traditional music, set and ceili dancing, and of course, Gaeilge Acla - the Irish language. Other annual events include the Achill Archaeological summer school and festivals such as the Achill Yawl racing festival, Achill Seafood festival, Walks festival and many others.
