Achill island, bordered by the Atlantic Ocean, offers some of the best quality beaches in Ireland, many of which are Blue Flag beaches. The wide sweeping beach at Keel is a very popular spot as is the beautiful, secluded strand at Keem Bay, located in a valley at the western tip of Achill Island.
Another famous Achill attraction is the Atlantic Drive, over 40km of breathtaking coastal scenery, ideal for touring in a car, or even better by bicycle! Along the way at Kildavnet, you will see the remains of the 16th century Irish tower house once used by the legendary pirate queen Granuaile (Grace O'Malley).
