Sculptures A to E

The North Mayo Sculpture Trail begins in Ballina and follows the coastal route through Killala, Ballycastle, Belderriig, Belmullet and down to Blacksod.

Gateway to North Mayo Sculpture Trail, Display space designed to accommodate the work of guest sculptors on temporary exhibition.

Location:

1 mile from Ballina on the Killala Road on the right hand side on the gable of the prefab in the Old Culleens School is Site A.

"The Inter Communication Park"
Killala Harbour.

Walking around the mounds, sitting on the stones, listening to the wind and the waves... All of us were in the maternal sea before we came.

Location:

Drive to Killala Pier. The site is located directly behind the new Coast and Cliff Rescue Station.

"Tonnta na Blianta,"
Kilcummin Pier.

A timeless pattern l0 x 18 m inlaid on the concrete retaining wall on the shoreline. Gneiss, the oldest rock at the centre enimating outwards with basalt and on through the ages of man symbolised by copper, iron and stainless steel.

Location:

Take the Ballycastle road out of Killala and turn right at Palmerstown Bridge, turn right at the third crossroads and on past the "Kerryman Inn" to Kilcummin Pier. On arriving at Kilcummin Pier turn down past the cottages to the parking area just before the pier. Looking to your right is site "C".

"Tearmon na Gaoithe."
Palmerstown Bridge

This is a vernacular sculpture born of its environment. The stone, quarried and thrown up by the waves, has been laid so as to form a shelter, a sanctuary, a place near the pulse of the tide, the breath of the winds. It belongs only here.

Location:

Take the Ballycastle road out of Killala and turn right at Palmerstown Bridge, turn right at the third crossroads and on past Kilcummin Pier and St. Cummin's Well, turn right and then left up the hill, continue straight down to Lacken Bay. At the end of the road turn right past site 'E', a short walk northwards along the shore is site 'D'.

"The Echo of Nawascape"
Lacken Bay.

The Nawascape, is the release of creative energy - continuous motion symbolises the inter-connectedness of all life itself and the energy of life inheriting beautiful, DNA endlessly.

Location:

Take the Ballycastle road out of Killala and turn right at Palmerstown Bridge. Turn right at the third crossroads and on past the Kerryman Inn to Kilcummin Pier. Past Kilcummin Pier and St. Cummin's Well, turn right and then left up the hill and continue straight down to Lacken Bay. At the end of the road on the right is site 'E'.
