Belcarra (Ballycarra) - in gaelic Baile na Cora ‘the townland of the weir’ - a pleasant and picturesque village in Central Mayo. Only a short drive to the surrounding towns of Castlebar and Westport this peaceful village has been a regular prizewinner in the Tidy Towns competition and, as a result, is a popular tourist destination.

A beautifully restored cottage, known as ‘The Eviction Cottage’, scene of the last (19th century) eviction in Belcarra by landlord’s agents, is today the local Belcarra Heritage Centre.

Many other historical and archaeological attractions around the village include ringforts, megalithic tombs and souterrains.

Nestled among wonderful trees and woodland areas, with Belcarra river, Welshpool and Cloonaugh lakes in the vicinity, Belcarra is a welcoming rural destination in which to relax and unwind.
