Fishing
An
ideal centre from which to fish Loughs Carra (4,000 acres) and Mask
(20,000 acres), world renowned wild brown trout lakes (season March -
Sept). Stocks of both lakes are mostly maintained by natural spawning
in the feeder streams. Fishery Officers remove eggs from some
selected hen fish, fertilise them and raise them to the unfed fry
stage in a nearby hatchery, for release into stretches of stream
where spawning is sparse.
Wet or dry fly fishing from drifting boats is practiced, although dapping the natural insect, mayfly, daddy and grasshopper can be exciting and productive.
Boats
Our boats, Burke built 19 foot fibreglass, are moored 100 yards from our house in our own small harbour on the Carra. We arrange the hire of local boatmen who are well used to the lakes, when requested. Boatmen take only 2 anglers with them, and the maximum persons allowed per boat is 3, including the boatman. No boats other than our own are allowed on the property without prior permission, which is rarely granted. Boat hirers may use their own engines as long as these are free of zebra mussel contamination and not above 10HP. We do not hire boats or engines to anglers unused to these lakes. Due to the nature of the lakes and their surroundings, they are difficult to fish without engines.
Mask is 10 minutes by car away, and we arrange the hire of boats and boatmen there, as well as on lakes further afield when asked. Enquiries concerning angling matters, suggested fly patterns, other recreational facilities, travel routes etc are welcome.
Brochures sent in response to your enquiry.

Partry is well situated for touring and the village itself has 2 good pubs and a post office.
