Tooreen
in Mayo in the West of Ireland
Situated in the parish of Aghamore, Tooreen is a small village, approximately 5 miles from Ballyhaunis and 10 minutes drive from Ireland West Airport Knock.
In the 1950s, Tooreen Dance Hall made national and UK news, with the story of the infamous appearance of a cloven-hoofed 'devil', alleged to have danced with a local girl one night in the ballroom. The story earned huge publicity for Tooreen dance hall, and was the subject of a docudrama in 2009, “Diabhal ag an Damhsa” (Devil at the Dance Hall).
Tooreen has a vibrant and well-known Hurling Club, formed in 1957, and affiliated to the Mayo County Board. The club won its first Mayo Senior Hurling Championship Title in 1966 and is the holder of numerous county senior titles to date.
The village has a Catholic church, (St Mary's), and St Brigid's National School caters for primary school children in the area.

Bernie has exhibited art in the Claremorris Open Art Exhibition since 1983. In that year she was one of the youngest artist in the group and won first prize.
Bernie has produced all of the cartoons for these Web Pages but her speciality is in Charcoal Portraits and occasionally she also works in pencil, pen and wash.
