Kilmovee - Cill Moibhí

Kilmovee is situated on the R325, approximately midway between Kilkelly and Ballaghaderreen, with 300 families living in the area. Its location is very convenient to Knock International Airport and Knock, which is just fifteen minutes drive, and a twenty-minute drive away from Knock Shrine.

Community

The Kilmovee Community is a very friendly and caring society. The physical evidence of the Community Caring Services for its senior citizens can be seen in the church area. A Housing Committee was formed in the mid-nineties and was successful in having the New Community Centre built and Community Housing for the elderly of the parish - all are adjacent to the church, the post office and shops of the village.

Sports Facilities

Kilmovee can boast of being one of the first, (if not the very first) indoor swimming pools in Ireland, built by voluntary labour in 1977. Other sports facilities include Gaelic Football for both men and women, soccer and indoor basketball and badminton.

Leisure Facilities

The leisure facilities include fishing - course and game fishing. Course fishing can arranged on Urlar Lake for pike and perch, the Lung River provides the angler with pike, perch and brown trout.

Game fishing is to had on the river Moy; one of Ireland's best salmon rivers, sea trout can be caught here as well. Shooting, you can join the Kilmovee Game Preservation Association, which includes, Clay Pigeon Shooting. Bingo is held every Sunday night in the Community Centre.
