Far away thoughts

Joe Mc Manamon
Australia

This is even worse than Christmas. Monday 17 March 1997, is that day when it all comes back;

The early morning search on ones knees looking for the Shamrock before that long bike ride to Mass and the magic that was the very best day of the year. My first pair of long trousers, my first dance, my first kiss and the feeling that there was more to the 'tomorrow' than homework and football.

Those days were the making of superb memories framed in the goodwill of magnificent parents who showed us how to appreciate love and a sound night's sleep.

Now, far away on the east Coast of Australia the Shamrock still grows in the pot by the window sill and the afternoon Sun, a handful of St Patrick's Day Cards adorn the wall, and I'll make a meal in the old way with Bacon & Cabbage.

Thanks to the Mayo Page 'home' is a little closer each night as I mingle with souls like me who searched the globe for something we now find we had at home long ago.

Best of Goodwill Greetings for a wonderful St Patrick's Day from Auhleem to Afghanisatn, Ballina to Boston, Carramore to Clondyke, Deel to Delhi, Erris to Egypt, Fergus to France, Gowna to Gove, and so on and on.
