Skeleton in the Cupboard

In searching the Irish roots I am amazed at some of the stories.
Many are buried for years for whatever reason. My Great Grandfather Mathew Mulroy came to the U.S. in l852. He was a big man of 6-6 or so and well over 250 pounds. He died in l910 in excess of 90 years. He died of heart and lung problems, but he was known as a kind man. However a recent discovery proved he was very fit to the day he died.
Just a few days before he died in Adrian, Minnesota, he was upset when a fellow made an unkind remark about his son's wife Sarah (Morris) Mulroy. So he shot the fellow. He didn't kill him, but took a good nick out of him. He died a few days later. His Grandson's James, Mathew, and Sylvester would later serve a year in a Minnesota prison for stealing chickens.
Being decended from a long line of chicken thieves isn't very appealing. Every family tree has a few "bent" limbs. An older relative claims the family has always claimed they perhaps drank and fought a little to much and at times were not as "social" as they could be.
What will I find when I get this family located in County Mayo. Would anyone know if there are any jail or prison records in the County Mayo area. I am sure some of all of our relatives broke a few laws . . . there should be records of that.
