Mayo Alive June
'98
This second poem is for my sister, Mary, who disappeared
en route while
returning to Ireland to satisfy a hunger for the past of her
people and to discover
what she felt was left behind...somehow on that journey she
disappeared
without a trace...
"Druids remember between lives.....others are
allowed to
forget"
Morgan Llywelyn ~Bard
(The Odyssey of the Irish)
Mary
She fell into a druid dream
whether fantasy or fact
the road had opened wide before her
and the wind was at her back
She saw symbols
signs for sure
that told of what would come
and knowing in her Celtic soul
that she would be the one
In her ears a melody
of ancient tribal song
of those of her's who went before
and those who would come along
She knew the price of going back
it was one of no return
yet, till she touched the shores again
her Celtic blood would burn
She would fight the battle lost
for ancient reasons known
and somehow in her druid dream
she had to fight alone
and I ?
I shall never know
if her dream was true...
"but I shall kneel, Mary, and say an Ave here for you"
(~For my sister, Mary Catherine Eileen, who disappeared
physically in
1983 but
is always in my heart~)
