The Plains of Mayo

The plains of Mayo are the fairest now seen,
They are tentful excelling in richest of green,
The fairest old city upholds its great fame,
Where the people are blessed in the Land League's new reign.

In this old founded city there's a wholesome blue sky,
And the spires of her temples are stupendously high,
Her fountains flow sparkling in magical streams,
And reflect like a mirror in the sun's glowing beams.

The seagull in white plume comes here from the main,
And the broad-winged proud cuckoo to tour o'er the plain,
The brown thrush and linnet tune sweet and so low,
In the green vested bowers round the Glebe at Mayo.
