The new Bills’ Rock Festival will take place on Achill Island from Friday 23rd June to Sunday 25th June in the beautiful village of Dooega. It celebrates the life of Donnacha Rúa Mac Cárthaigh, sea pilot and master seaman, born in Dooega.

The Festival will kick off on Friday night, Donnacha Rúa 193rd birthday, with poetry recitals, refreshments and the lighting of St. John’s Bonfire.

On Saturday the most exiting event will take place. The first ever passenger ferry to Bills’ Rock will leave from Dooega Beach. Participants will experience some of the most breathtaking views along the Wild Atlantic Way including Achill Head, the coast along Keem Bay and Achill’s famous Cathedral Cliffs and learn the story of fearless Donnacha Rúa.

Also a guided walk “Walk in Johnny Rúa Footsteps to Cnapogaí Arda” will take place. Gerard Mangan will bring participants to Dooega Head sharing his knowledge of the local surroundings and the history of Bills Rock.

The Festival is fully packed with activities and events that cater all family. There will be water sports, pony treks, food and beach market stalls, treasure hunts and a sandcastle building competition for children and much more.

On Saturday afternoon the exciting Curragh Racing will take place at Dooega Pier.

On Sunday the Festival will end with a guided walk on Slí Grainne Uaile with a Local Guide.
