The 2017 Scoil Acla Summer School will take place from Saturday 22nd July to Saturday 29th July on Achill Island. It is reputed as one of Ireland’s oldest summer schools, founded in 1910 for the preservation and promotion of the Irish language and traditional Irish music. It revived in 1985.

The extensive range of traditional music classes available at Scoil Acla includes accordion, banjo, bodhrán, concertina, flute, fiddle, harp, tin whistle and uileann pipes for all levels. Many sessions will be held around Achill Island throughout the week.

This popular summer school also hosts a highly esteemed writers' workshop, poetry readings, drama performances, concerts and art exhibitions. There are also workshops in Traditional Irish Dance, Sean-Nós singing, classes in Irish Language (Achill dialect), Creative Writing, Arts Courses and the Traditional Basket Weaving, one of the most popular courses at Scoil Acla Summer School.
