The 2017 Heinrich Böll Memorial Weekend takes place from Friday 28th April to Monday 1st May in Dugort, Achill Island and celebrates 100 years since his birth.

Heinrich Boll was born in Germany in 1917. He lived and worked in Achill, residing in a cottage in the village of Dugort. A local committee, the Heinrich Boll Foundation in Germany, the Boll Family and Mayo County Council maintain the cottage and administer the residency programme.

It will include: lectures, guided walks, poetry readings and writing seminars.

On Sunday the event will move to Clare Island. There will be a guided walk on the island and readings at Clare Island Abbey.

The event will end with the unveiling of a memorial plaque to Heinrich Böll by H.E. Matthias Höpfner German Ambassador to Ireland in Keel Village Centre.
