July 2016

‘In Humbert's Footsteps’, probably the Best Living History Event in Ireland, was a national winner of ‘the Gathering of the Year Event’ in 2013. It was a spectacular battle re-enactment that took place on the streets of Ballina.

For the third time, this amazing family friendly free living history event will take place on Saturday 30th July and Sunday 31st July 2016 in Kilcummin, the site of the landing of French General Humbert on 22nd August 1798.

The event will bring back to life French Soldiers, Redcoats, Pikemen and Women, Battles, 1798 Military Camp, cannon guns, muskets, swords and bayonets. Visitors will experience what life was like in 1798, the year since known as ‘The Year of the French’ (Bliain na bhFrancach, in Irish). Soldiers will re-enact an episode in Irish history which James Joyce referenced in Ulysses and which influenced W. B. Yeats to write his play Caithleen ni Houlihan.

‘In Humbert’s Footsteps’ furthers the Franco-Irish Relations.
