St. Mary’s Abbey is set in the town of Ballyhaunis, which is in the parish of Annagh and the barony of Costello.
Fr. John O’Connor O.S.A. put together a detailed history of the Abbey and the surrounding areas in 1983, published by the Augustinian Community of Ballyhaunis. Extracts from this work are reproduced here by kind permission of Fr. O’Connor O.S.A. and the Augustinian Community.
This publication can be found in the reference section of Ballyhaunis library and in Castlebar county library.
