Irish drooping Lady's Tresses, Flora in Co. Mayo

This beautiful and rare orchid can be found in few sites close to lake shores (mainly on Lough Conn shore), in damp meadows and boggy ground. It flowers in July and August.

It has creamy-white flowers in a twisted spiral forming a short dense spike, the leaves are linear-lanceolate.

Its botanical name is Spiranthes Romanzoffiana while its Irish name is Cùilìn Gaelach.

It afforded strict protection under the Flora Protection Order.
