Baring my soles for Pieta House

Claremorris

Eamonn Keaveney, a 23 years old primary school teacher, is coming back from his journey on Friday 12th August in the Square, Claremorris at 5pm. He departed from his hometown of Claremorris on May 1st and walked around Ireland in his bare feet, raising funds for Pieta House Suicide and Self Harm Centres.

He chose this suicide prevention charity because of the problem of mental health in the country and the suicide rate among young people.

His barefoot walk took him from Galway, to Cork, Waterford, Donegal, across the Wicklow mountains and into Northern Ireland before returning back to Mayo.

He has raised over €17,000 so far and walked over 2,000km, breaking the Guinness World Record for the longest barefoot journey.

In his rucksack he only put essentials such as a sleeping bag, cookware, and a change of clothes. He packed also a logbook to record his journey and a book of evidence to collect signatures from witnesses each day in order to comply with Guinness World Record rules.
