“Mr Yeats’ Visit to Killala” takes place at St Patrick’s Cathedral, Killala, on Friday August 28 at 8pm.

This event is part of the national celebrations for the 150th anniversary of the poet’s birth. It is an evening of poetry and song and celebrates the links between Killala, its people and the poet.

The French Landing of 1798 into Kilcummin pier, near Killala, was made immortal by Yeats in the play ‘Cathleen Ní Houlihan’ co-written with Lady Gregory and staged at The Irish Literary Theatre, the precursor to The Abbey Theatre, in 1904.

Some of Yeats’s best-loved poetry will be read by a host of Killala locals and natives who will read their personally selected poems on the evening.

There will be also music provided by the Lawlor School of Music; well-loved classics such as ‘Down by the Salley Gardens’ and contemporary and original pieces, created especially for the evening, will be performed.

Admission is free.
