Angling Club, Bangor in Co. Mayo

Bangor Erris Angling Club was established in 1970 and is going from strength to strength and remains the only continuous indigenous resource in the Bangor Erris area.

The main objective of the club is the development and promotion of angling as a sport and recreation in the Barony of Erris. This fishing hub has become renowned for its premier angling throughout Ireland, Europe and beyond.

Bangor Erris Angling Club plays a pivotal role in tourism in the area, with access to valuable fish resources on the Owenmore River and Carramore Lake. The club offers angling opportunites for both the beginner and advanced angler, who can choose from either the river or teh lake, depending on their ability.

The club promotes fly fishing for salmon and sea trout and offers fishing facilities to non club members and visiting fishermen on a daily or weekly basis. Extensive development work has been undertaken by the club on both the river and lake over the past number of years to further improve the experience for the visiting angler.

Carrowmore Lake is renowned for being one of the most productive spring salmon fisheries in Ireland with consistent spring salmon catches each year from February till late May or early June.

Carrowmore Lake switches from spring salmon fishing to grilse fishing usually in late June into July, and at this time the lake also offers excellent sea trout fishing to the fly. Depending on weather the Owenmore River will produce spring fish from late April through until June and sometimes beyond.

The Owenmore river also fishes well in late summer, with impressive catch numbers right until the end of the season in late September.
