Cafferkeys
My grandfather Peter Cafferkey (1883-1952) was one of at least 8 children born in Aughness North, Ballycroy to Michael Cafferkey and Mary Lenghahan The names of the other children were John,Mary,Pat,Cecelia, Peter,Jack,Anne and Katey. there may have been at least 2 others. Most of the children emigrated as far as we know some going to the UK and some to USA.Peter came to the North East of England in about 1900 with his cousin Jimmy who was registered on entry as Cafferty so in our family we have Cafferkeys, Cafferkys and Caffertys all from the same stock. We met Jimmys brother in 1970 in Ballycroy and he was Paddy Cafferkey the local Postman and that year he had just had electricity installed. The Cafferkey cottage has been derelict for over 50 years but is still standing and several family members have visited over the years. So we know about Peter but have no information on any other of the brothers or sisters and would be pleased if anyone has more information. Regards Peter Curran e-mail [removed]
