13th March-17th March

Westport, Gathering for Patrick

This year Westport celebrates the Gathering for Patrick from Friday 13th March to Tuesday 17th March.

This event offers a wide choice of music in town’s pubs every day. Bands, musicians and singers will perform traditional Irish music, tunes on harp, concertina or fiddle and songs.

In addition poetry, old recitations and tales will be performed at variuos venues, such as the Westport Story, a 60 minutes animated tour through the streets of the town starting at the Octagon.

There will be also road races and fun runs which cater for all runners.

The Gathering will end on St Patrick’s Day with the traditional ‘Dawn Climb of Croagh Patrick’ at 6am and the Parade in town at 1.30pm.

Parades in Mayo on St Patrick’s Day

Ballina

Ballina's St Patrick's Day parade will take on Tuesday 17 March at 4 pm. from Convent Hill. It is an event full packed with family fun, music and entertainment.

Locals bars will offer live music throughout the day and after the parade.

At 8.00pm Coca Cola Life Firework display will brighten up the sky at the Salmon Weir Bridge.

Claremorris

The St Patrick's Day Parade committee welcome visitors to the town of Claremorris for the annual parade.

This has become an action-packed, fun day for all the family, young and old.

This years St Patrick’s Day parade will take place on Tuesday, 17th March, commencing at 3.00pm from the lakeside shopping center, on the old Ballindine road, leading on to James St. and on to The Square. It will finish off up the Ballyhaunis road. The theme will be water. Lots of colourful marching bands will perform proceeding under way; there will be a fine display of music, song and dance with Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann. 

Achill Island

On the rugged Achill Island every year St. Patrick's Day is celebrated on 17th March. The island’s traditional pipe bands take a central role in this celebration by marching from village to village from a 6am reveille for most of the day. Visitors will enjoy a special day out following the Achill pipe bands, pausing for refreshments of course and taking time to spot the spectacular scenery of Achill Island. In the evening pubs and restaurants will offer live music.

Castlebar

In Castlebar this year the St. Patrick's Day parade will take place at 2pm on 17th March. The event has a new atmosphere, a sort of Mardi Gras feel to the day. There will be plenty of colour and festival fun: a 30' high dragon, a dinosaur, inflatables, multi-colour costumes etc. There will be also a photo competition for visitors and a window display competition for the businesses.

A huge new idea and addition will be "Féile an Chaisleáin", a concert/fiesta that will take place on Market Sq. from 12pm where local musicians, local dance school, the Humbert Céilí Band, street entertainers, bouncy castles, face-painters, a magician etc. will perform throughout the afternoon.
