Moygownagh (Moygowna) - Gaelic Maith Gamhna, meaning 'plain of the milch cows' - is a parish in the barony of Tyrawley. Situated on the R315 Crossmolina to Ballycastle road, Moygownagh borders the parishes of Kilfian and Crossmolina, as well as the parish of Kilcommon in the barony of Erris.
Moygownagh has a church, National School, general store and petrol station and is less than nine miles from Ballina or Crossmolina.
A modern Community Centre, which is at the heart of the parish of Moygownagh, is a meeting place and sporting venue for the local community. The people of Moygownagh and surrounding areas benefit from computer training facilities and various European equality programmes at the centre.
This rural area boasts progressive community development training and is home to the leading organization in women’s development in north Mayo - Women of the North West. The headquarters of this self-help community movement is located in Moygownagh Community Centre.
