International Dark Sky Week

March-April 2019
The International Dark Sky Week is running from Sunday 31st March to Sunday 7th April across County Mayo. Events will cater for families and businesses alike. Speakers from Northumberland and Ireland will talk about the dark skies in Mayo celebrating the night’s beauty.

Sunday 31st March 3pm - Solar Walk for all the family trough our solar system. Venue: Bellacragher Boat Club, Ballycroy.

Monday 1st April 7.30pm - The Dark Night Rises, talk by Deirdre Kelleghan. Venue: Books at One, Louisburgh

Tuesday 2nd April 8pm - Cosmic Blunders, talk by Derek Dempsey of Newport Astronomy Club. Venue: Hotel Newport.

Wednesday 3rd 8pm - Dánta in the Dark, night themed compositions by Candlelight. Venue: Mulranny Park Hotel, Mulranny.

Thursday 4th April 8pm - An Astronomer’s Tale, by Gary Fildes, Director of Kielder Observatory, Northumberland. Venue: Visitor Centre, Ballycroy National Park.

Friday 5th April 8pm - Dark Matters, talk about night sky preservation by Georgia MacMillan of Mayo Dark Skies team. Venue: Céide Fields, Ballycastle.

Saturday 6th April 8pm - Creating a Community Vision of Light, talk by Duncan Stewart. Venue: Hotel Newport.
- Sunday 7th April 8pm - Magic, Myth & Moonlight, stories and magic by candlelight with Dan O'Donoghue of Terra Firma Ireland. Venue: Enniscoe House & Gardens, Crossmolina.
