The National Museum of Country Life in Turlough, Castlebar, is celebrating the International Women’s Day with a special event on Sunday 8th March 2020 at 3 pm.

Dr Catriona Clear, lecturer at the National University of Ireland Galway, will talk about women’s magazines in Ireland in the 1950s and ‘60s entitled “No Regrets for the Days that are Gone”.

The talk is based on her book about the letters and problems written to Woman’s Life and Woman’s Way in the 1950s and ‘60s by Irish women.

From the late 1950s onwards women participed in paid work, trade unions and voluntary organisations and experienced a freedom which their mothers and aunts had never known.

Also, the Museum is hosting an exhibition called Kitchen Power: Women’s Experiences of Rural Electrification and on Saturday 7th March an event called “Finding Voice, Creating Choice”.

This event takes place from 12 noon to 4 pm and offers an opportunity for women from all nationalities to discuss personal transformation, poetry, music, health and wellbeing and share their life experiences and learn from each other.
