The 2026 Irish Astronomy Week, “Our Place amongst the Stars”, will take place from Saturday 20th March to Saturday 28th March across Ireland. The week aims to encourage people to go out and explore the sky.
In County Mayo, the Mayo Dark Sky Park and some libraries are hosting the following events:
- Where Land Meets Stars: Photographing Achill’s Night Sky, with Davy Patton, on Saturday 28th March from 2 pm to 8 pm, Sraheens, Achill Sound.
- Northern Lights over Mayo: Chasing the Aurora on Ireland’s Atlantic Edge, with Ronan Newman, on Tuesday 24th March at 6 pm Claremorris Library.
- Northern Lights over Mayo: Chasing the Aurora on Ireland’s Atlantic Edge, with Ronan Newman, on Friday 20th March at 7 pm Aghleam Blacksod.
- Mayo International Dark Sky Park-Guided Night Sky Walk, on Monday 23rd March at 8 pm in Wild Nephin National Park.
- Mayo International Dark Sky Park-Guided Night Sky Walk, on Friday 27th March at 8 pm, Newport.
The Irish Astronomy Week will take place from Saturday 20th March to Saturday 28th March 2026.
