Wild Atlantic Words Festival will take place from Monday, 9th October to Sunday, 15th October 2023, at Dome Bridge Street in Castlebar.

The festival celebrates the literary tradition of the West of Ireland and has become more and more popular,

This year, an interesting lineup of guests is in store for the passionates of literature including Katriona O’Sullivan, John McKenna,

Elaine Farrel and Leanne McCormick, Mike McCormack, Donal Ryan, Mairtin O’Maicin, Johnny Mee, Carl Frampton, Niamh Holleran-McGing, Nuala Moore and Declan Varley.

There will be readings, recitals, debates and reflections while young and emerging writers will be introduced and acknowledged.

On 9th October, there will be a talk on the Magdalene Asylums of Mayo by the academic and historian Michael O’Connor.

On Saturday 14th October, Marie Louise O’Donnell will host “Birth of a Nation”. The event features special guests: EU Commissioner Mairead McGuinness, historian Diarmaid Ferriter and journalist Justine McCarthy.
