July 2019

The 2019 Bard Summer School and Festival will take place on Clare Island from Wednesday 3rd July to Saturday 6th July.

It attracts participants from all over the world. The School explores all Irish myths handed down through Ireland's oral tradition and goes on a unique journey of discovery for their contemporary relevance.

The Bard Festival hosts evening entertainment such as the annual Islander’s Night, where participants experience local music, poetry song and dance performed by the people of Clare Island.

Children with their families are welcome. Parallel to the Bard Summer School is The Children’s Bard, a special school catered for kids including art, weaving, sport, music, dancing and storytelling.

Participants will be able to complete the contemplative walk of “The Chartres Labyrinth”.

This year the focus will be on “Myth and Silent Voices” through the lens of the ancient Irish Myth “The Táin Bó Cuailnge” and stories from “An Labor Gabhala” and many more.

The event finishes with the annual Bard Féasta, a Celtic feast, and a poetry reading by a special guest.
