November 2022

The 2022 Mayo Dark Sky Festival will take place from Friday 4th November to Saturday 6th November in Newport, Mulranny and Ballycroy.

It is a celebration of Mayo skies, but this year, there will be talks by the team which captured the first image of a black hole back in 2019: Brother Guy Consolmagno, head of the Vatican Observatory and Dr Sera Markoff of the University of Amsterdam.

Professor Mark McCaughrean of the ESA will be back and will talk about the James Webb Space Telescope.

Irish botanist and broadcaster Dr Éanna ní Lamhna will return to talk about biodiversity and sustainability.

On the opening night, there will be the performance of cellist Patrick Dexter.

Ballycroy Visitor Centre will host a stunning exhibition of nighttime photography.

Dathanna Harp and Clarinet Duo will close the event on Sunday night.
