Tapestry of St Patrick, Charlestown in Co. Mayo

This Tapestry portrays St Patrick as Bishop, with Armagh Cathedral on his right, Reek Patrick, Co Mayo, top left and the snakes, which he banished from Ireland, at his feet.

It was hand-needled by Margaret Filan Henry, mother of the late Tony Henry, The Square, Charlestown, in 1882. Her cousin Fr Michael Filan ordained in Maynooth in 1816, was first Parish Priest of Kilbeagh and Carracastle. He died in 1828 and is buried in Tample cemetery.

It was presented to the church by Tony Henry's widow Delia and family in 2003.
