Holy Well, Kiltimagh in Co. Mayo

The Holy Well of St. Cuimhin (St. Kevin?) is situated in Lisnamaneeagh. One local legend has it that St. Cuimhin was a disciple of St. Patrick and travelled extensively with him.

They parted company at Ballinamore and Cuimhin came to live in this locality.

Archaeologically, this site is regarded as an early Ecclesiastical Site. This accords with the legend.

So does the name of the townland in which the well is located - Lisnamaneeagh, or Lios na Maineach (the Fort of the Monks).

As with all Holy Wells, this one has its share of cures and stories.

The water from this well has properties to cure eye ailments.
